Pastoral Support

Mrs Otter is our pastoral teacher and she spends time with children in small groups, or on their own, supporting emotional and mental health needs across the whole school.  She also works very closely with families to overcome some of the barriers to learning our children face.

ELSA

ELSA is an emotional support programme that aims to help children with a range of issues that they may struggle with, such as social skills, emotions, bereavement, anger management, friendships and self-esteem. It is a time-limited programme, meaning that children may access this with one of our trained ELSA assistants for a set period of 6-8 weeks before completing the programme.

Roots of Empathy

Roots of Empathy is an initiative that is designed to develop empathy and emotional literacy in children as they interact with, and observe the vulnerabilities that a newborn baby possesses. Throughout the year, one class will be to selected to have regular visits from a baby - who will only be 3 months old at the beginning of the programme - and will participate in a range of activities, taking the opportunity to discuss their feelings and to listen to the feelings of others.

Mrs Rushmore delivers this in school, and has attended significant training for Roots of Empathy.
