Welcome to Year 1
What a brilliant start to the year, everyone is settling in well and trying really hard in all their work!
Reading books will be changed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Please can you hear your child read regularly, it is very important, especially for helping us to grow our imaginations and come up with lots of exciting ideas to help in our writing. Please leave a comment in the diary to let us know you have read together
Please could you also ensure children only have one key ring on their book bag. Make sure book bags are checked every day for important letters about notices and events in school!
Please make sure library books are in book bags on a Tuesday so that they can be changed. These books are to be enjoyed as a story at home to help encourage children's love of reading!
PE will take place every Thursday and Friday, if PE kits go home to be washed please make sure they are brought back in time for the next lesson.
Spellings will now be tested every Thursday. Your child has a yellow practice book to take home. Please use the 'look, say, cover, write and check' method to practice spellings at the front of the book. Tests will be done at the back of the book.
In English we have started looking at non-fiction texts, practicing writing lists and labeling pictures. We have been working hard to use phonemes we know in our writing, making sure we have capital letters at the beginning of our sentences, full stops at the end and finger spaces between words.
We have been very busy in Maths, working on our arithmetic skills, our reasoning and our problem solving. We will be looking at 2D shapes over the next week, thinking about their names and properties. Extra practice counting in 2s, 5s and 10s at home would be very useful to help us learning our numbers!
