Year 1

Welcome to Year 1

Welcome back to school for this last term. This term Year 1 will be taught by Mrs Otter and Mrs Edmondson. They will be supported in class by Mrs Morris.

Don't forget to continue to read every night, even though the sun is shining! This is really important.

We change reading books

Monday, Wednesday and Fridays.

SUMMER

Topic:

This term your children will be finding out about a range of animals. We will be looking at classifications of animals, how animals move and where animals live. We are hoping to arrange a school trip during this term linked to animals, and will let you know as soon as we have booked.

Phonic Screening: During the month of June your child will have to do a Phonic test. Keep practising sounds with your child - the results will be published in the end of year school report.

Routines:  Try and keep to your child's normal bedtime routines during these lighter evenings. Many of your children are weary by the afternoon, but work is now faster paced in preparation for Year 2. Watch the weather - whilst it is tempting to leave coats at home the British weather is extremely changeable, so a light waterproof coat would be best this term.

PE: will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please ensure your child has full PE kit in school, of black shorts, white t-shirt and black pumps. This is especially important at this time of year as many PE lessons will take place outdoors. We also have Sports Day to look forward to. Start training now for the Parent's Race!!

Home reading - Reading books will be changed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, remember to make notes in your child’s reading record book and comment on their progress. Children will receive a prize for every 10 books they read and can talk about.

This term we have introduced Enrichment. The children mix with children from all the other year groups and follow a planned enrichment programme for 4 weeks. Mrs Otter is gardening, Mrs Morris is doing Forest School and Mrs Edmondson is doing wool crafts.
