Welcome to Year 1
Welcome back to school, we are very excited to be starting the new year together in Year 1 and are looking forward to lots of fun things over the next few weeks! The week beginning the 22nd January is 'Africa Week' in school. To get ready we are reading 'Handa's Surprise' and we are going to be using maps, globes and atlases to find out all about the continent of Africa.
Reading books will be changed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Please can you hear your child read regularly, it is very important, especially for helping us to grow our imaginations and come up with lots of exciting ideas to help in our writing. Please leave a comment in the diary to let us know you have read together
Make sure book bags are checked every day for important letters about notices and events in school!
WELL DONE TO ALL THE CHILDREN WHO HAVE ALREADY WON GOLDEN COINS AND A SPECIAL PRIZE FROM MRS CLAYTON-YOUNG
Please make sure library books are in book bags on a Monday so that they can be changed. These books are to be enjoyed as a story at home to help encourage children's love of reading!
PE will take place every Wedensday and Thursday, if PE kits go home to be washed please make sure they are brought back in time for the next lesson. Please make sure children have outdoor PE clothes too!
Spellings are tested every Thursday. Your child has a yellow practice book to take home. Please use the 'look, say, cover, write and check' method to practice spellings at the front of the book. Tests will be done at the back of the book.
Reasoner of the Week
We are working hard to be Maths reasoners. Children have to solve a problem and explain their methods and reasons for doing so!
Children have a white booklet in their book bags, they will be tested on the Maths Facts (number stories) at some point throughout the week. These will then be used in class on a Friday to check their number knowledge
